About Us

Maggie B. Selman Elementary School is proudly named after Mrs. Maggie B. Selman who served in the capacities of teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent for Sealy Independent School District for more than 30 years. After retirement, Mrs. Selman continued to be involved with the elementary and intermediate campuses named in honor of her and several of the traditions begun during her leadership have continued including our Holiday Cookies & Coffee event for all students, parents, grandparents, and community members.

Maggie B. Selman Elementary was once a K-6 campus, but with growth that has increasingly continued, the campus was converted to an EE-3 campus now serving approximately 998 students. In 2013 the campus entered into the first year of a full-day open enrollment pre-kindergarten program. The district equally funds this program for all participants with parents of non-qualifying students paying a monthly tuition approximately equivalent to the state funding received for qualifying students. The purpose of this program is to see growth in the reading proficiency skills including vocabulary and fluency at the beginning of the year kindergarten screening assessment.

The elementary campus currently is organized into 6 self-contained prekindergarten classrooms, 11 self-contained kindergarten classrooms, 12 self-contained first grade classrooms, 12 second grade classrooms organized into a partner-teaching arrangement of ELAR/SS-Math/Science, 11 third grade classrooms mostly organized into the partner-teaching arrangement of ELAR/SS-Math/Science.  The campus additionally supports a PPCD classroom, Structured Learning Classroom, Life Skills Classroom, Resource Program, Intervention program with 3 intervention specialists serving grades K-1 and 2-3 in the areas of math and reading. There are approximately 2 sections of Early-Exit Bilingual Education Classes in each grade level.
